About WESDARC
WESDARC is a non-government not-for-profit charitable organisation, governed by a voluntary, community-based Management Committee located in Penrith, and primarily works with the Nepean, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury communities (also known as the Western Cluster in the Sydney West Area Health Service).
Our Philosophy:
"Education and community development can minimise the harm associated with alcohol and other drug use as well as change the belief and value systems that support this".
Vision Statement:
WESDARC operates from within the community to promote the principles of harm minimisation in a creative and responsive way that reflects an understanding of the diversity of social, cultural and environmental needs of people living in Penrith, Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury. Through the provision of education resources, skills development, community development, training and advocacy, WESDARC strives to improve health, increase alternatives and bring about change.
WESDARC promotes social justice, and access and equity in collaboration with the community of Wentworth Area.
Aims (Objects of Association):
- To provide an alcohol and other drug resource service responsive to the needs of the people of outer Western Sydney.
- To promote and develop harm minimisation strategies associated with alcohol and other drug use.
- To develop an awareness of the issues and problems related to drug use.
- To operate as a resource unit with community groups in developing community based services and activities in line with the philosophy of the service.
- To provide an accessible resource on alcohol and other drug related issues at both simple and research levels to the public.
- To respond at a local community level to State and Federal Government initiatives.
- To coordinate activities and/or provide networking opportunities to alcohol and other drug related services/agencies in the area.
